Know all men by these presents that I John Craig of the Township of Freehold in the County of Monmouth & province of New Jersey Yeoman for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds money of province by me received of Archibald Craig my own son of the same place wherewith I am well satisfied & contented, have aliened granted bargained & sold & by these presents to do give grant bargain & sell unto ye said Archibald Craig his heirs & assigns all these two tracts in said Freehold.
Ye first is ye tract or plantation where I dwell being part of ye plantation late of James Johnston deceased & ye headland of Christian Cheen joining thereunto beginning on ye northbrook at ye east corner of that late of said Johnston & running up ye brook twenty two chains thence four west by west seventeen chains, thence nor-west by north twenty two chains, thence south-west by west along ye line of said Johnston Farme, ye said South Brook thirty five chains, thence down ye said south brook two chains to a black oak tree marked by ye west side of a small run & about east nor-east by ye run nine chains, thence up a hollow betwixt two small risings of ground to a stoke standing standing on ye north side of ye path which goes from ye Johnston Farme toward ye falls of Shrewsberry – & about a chain west from ye parting of the said path with another path leading to ye house late of John Cambell – ye course about east nor-east seventeen chains thence north by west twenty one chains to a stake standing on ye north brook a chain below a gully, thence up ye brook twenty five chains to where it began bounded east by ye land late of John Campbell west by ye farm late late of said Johnston.
The other tract begins at ye south-west corner of said Johnston Farme, being ye meeting of two brooks and running down along ye brook, north by northwest thirty two chains thence east northeast 10 chains thence south south east thirty five chains to a brook and thence down said brook to where it began bounded south & south east by ye brook and west and north by said farme with all ye royalties & profits & appurtenances thereunto belonging & all ye estate, right, title, interest, reversion, remainder claime & demand whatsoever of me ye said John Craig into or out of ye same two tracts of land or any part of them and amply and fully to all interest & purposes
and ye same were conferred to me by deed of Allen Colowell bearing date ye fourth day of may 1704 – to have & to hold ye said tracts of land plantation & premises with ye appurtenances unto him ye said Archibald Craig his heirs & assigns forever in witness whereof I ye said John Craig have hereunto sett my hand and seale this second day of September in the fourth year of his majesties reign anno domi 1717.
