This is a transcription of a property sale executed in the Eastern Division of the Province of New Jersey, between my 6th great-grandfather, Lewis Forman, and Daniel Morgan.

Lewis Forman is my 6th great-grandfather on my maternal grandfather’s side. This is a transcription of a property sale in Middlesex dated 2 MAY 1757 from Lewis Forman to Daniel Morgan. Conveyance Middlesex County 2 MAY 1757 [Folio 289]

Notes: Capitalization and punctuation are as given. Nouns and the start of sentences seem to be capitalized. Abbreviations or unreadable text is noted in brackets. A chain is a unit of measurement –  66 ft, or 22 yards, or 100 links.

This Indenture made the Second Day of May in the thirteenth Year if the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second over Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith & Anno Domini one thousand Seven hundred & fifty seven Between Lewis Forman of the Township of Middletonsex[?} in the County of Monmouth in the Eastern Division of the Province of New Jersey Merchant of the one part and Daniel Morgan if the County of Middlesex of the Province aforesaid Yeoman of the other Part Witnesseth both that he the said Lewis Forman for and in Consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds Current Lawful Money of the City of New York to him in hand paid by him the said Daniel Morgan the Receipt whereof he the said Lewis Forman doth hereby Acknowledge and himself to be therewith fully and enitrely satisfied Contented & paid and thereof and of and from every part and parcel thereof doth fully and freely Clearly and absolutely Acquit Exonerate and discharge him the said Daniel Morgan his heirs Executors Administrators and every of them forever by these Presents hath Granted Bargained Sold Released Conveyed Confirmed and by these presents doth absolutely Grant  Bargain Sell Release Convey and Confirm unto him the said Daniel Morgan his heirs and Assigns for ever a Certain Tract of Land Situate lying and being in the County of Middlesex being part of a Tract of Land which was Granted unto John Robertson by a Certain Deed of Bargain & Sale under the name and Seal of William  Robertson deed bearing date the fiftieth day of June Anno Domini 1743 And from the said John Robertson unto the said Lewis Forman by a Certain Deed of Bargain & Sale under the name and Seal of the said John Robertson Bareing date the Eleventh day of February Anna Domini 1756.  Beginning at the South West Corner of said Tract of Land in the line of a Tract of Land formerly belonging to William Cochera as the same was settled by Anton Tratiom[?] in the Year 1746 and from thence running South Seventy Eight degrees thirty Minutes East about sixty Chains to a Hickry Sapline marked on four sides and thence running South fifty Degrees East Seventeen Chains sixty links to a stake and landing in a Run thence North Forty Seven Degrees East Fourteen Chains and a half to Hendrickson’s line thence North fifty four degrees fifteen minutes West Eighteen Chains to about ten foot Southwestard of a Hickry Trees standing near where two paths meet thence North Seventy six Degrees West about sixty five Chains to said Dochsaw’s Westerly line thence along said line south southwest thirteen Chains and sixty links to where it began Containing one hundred Acres. Together with all and all manner of Housings Buildings Orchards Fencings Feedings Profits Commodities Liberties Advantages hereditiments and appurtenances whatsoever to the same Belonging or in an manner of wats thereunto Appertaining. Also all the Estate Right Title Interest and demand of him the said Lewis Forman either in Law or Equity of in or unto the said Tract of Land and granted Premises with the Revisions or Revisions Remainder or Remainders of or belonging to the same or any part or parcel thereof fully and ample to all Portents[?} Constructions and Purposes whatsoever ro have and to hold the said Tract of Land with the Appurtenances unto him the said Daniel Morgan his Heirs and Assigns forever. And the said Lewis Forman for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators doth Covenant Promise Grant and Agree to and with him the said Daniel Morgan his heirs and Assigns in on an next & Forever [?] following of every [?] that at the rime of the Sealing and Delivery hereof he the said Lewes Forman is Lawfully seized of the said Tract of Land and Granted Premises in his proper right in Fee Simple and that at the time of the Sealing and Delivery hereof he hath he hath [original has this duplication] in himself good Right Title over and absolute Lawful Authority to Grant Bargain Sell Release Convey and Confirm the said Tract of Land & Granted & Bargained Premises with the Appurtenances unto him the said Daniel Morgan his heirs and Assigns in manner aforesaid and that the same in ell[?} Free and Cleat and from time to time and at all times hereafter shall Remain Free & Clear unto him the said Daniel Morgan his heirs and Assigns of and from all manner of formerly & other Gifts Grants Bargains Sales Leases Mortgages and of and from all other Titles Troubles Charges Demands & Incumbrance’s whatsoever had made done committed or suffered to be done by him the said Lewis Forman or any other Person or Persons whatsoever so as to Alter Change charge Defeat Determine or make void the same and further he the said Lewis Forman an doth Covenant Agree and bind himself his heirs executors administrators and every of them firmly by these presents to warrant and forever defend him the said Daniel Morgan his heirs and assigns in quiet & peaceable possession of all and singular the said Tract of Land and Granted Premises with the Appurtenance against the just and lawful claim or Demand of any Person or Persons whatsoever. & witnesseth he the said Lewis Forman hath hereunto set his hand and Seal the Day and Year first above written.  – Lewis Forman [SEAL]

Be it remembered that on the first dat Of May 1767 personally appeared before me James Parker one of his Majesty’s Coincil for the Province of New Jersey. William Morgan one of the subscribing Witnesses to the within written Testament who being duly Sworn on his Oath did declare that he saw Lewis Forman party thereto Seal & Deliver the same as his voluntary act of deed for these uses and purposes therein mentioned.  – James Parker
