James Craig is my 8th great-uncle on my maternal grandfather’s side. This is a transcription of a property sale between James Edwin and James Craig from 10 APR 1702 enacted the same day and regarding property in the same area as a transfer of land between John Craig, my 9th great-grandfather and Archibald Craig, my 8th great-grandfather on my maternal grandfather’s side. Reference: C:Folio 230. Archibald was a witness to this Indenture.

This Indenture made 27th Day of March in the 14th year if the Reign of William the Third over England, Scotland & Ireland King  Anno Domini 1702. Between James Edwan of the County of Monmouth & the province of East New Jersey farmer of the one part And James Craig of the said province and County of the other part Witnesseth that the said James Edwan for and in Consideration for a Competent Sum of Money the said James Edwan in hand paid by the said James Craig and Receipt whereof hereby acknowledges the said James Edwan for himself his Executors and Administrators Doth by these presents acquit exonerate discharge the said James Craig his heirs and assigns for ever Hath aliened granted bargained sold released enoffered & confirmed and by these presents Doth alien grant bargain sell release enoffer and confirm unto the said James Craig his heirs and assigns for ever All that tract of Land Situate lying and being in the County of Monmouth between Spotswood’s middle brook its[?] South brook Beginning where the said two brooks meet and running up the said middle brook eighty chains thence South west and by west three degrees more Southerly about Sixty Chains to the said South Brook and thence at the said South brook running about fifty chains to the place where it began bounded southerly and northerly by the aforesaid brooks and easterly by some headland belonging to General Parsons Together with all and all manner of houses buildings pastures fences orchards Rivers Riverlets Royalties Franchises appurtenances unto the said James belonging or any manner of ways appertaining and all the Estate Right Title Interest Possession Property Revision Remainder Claim and Demand of him the said James Edwan & his heirs of in to or out of the said James or any part thereof as fully and amply to all Intents Confirmations & purposes of the said James whatsoever was conveyed to him by deed of sale from James Johnston of Spotswood bearing date the 8th day of February Anno Domini 1689 To have and to Hold the said tract of Land possession and appurtenances unto him the said James Craig his heirs & assigns forever and the said James Edwan for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators doth covenant and agree to and with the said James Craig his heirs and assigns that he the said James Edwan hath not done or suffered to be done by his consent or proclamation any act or acts thing or things in the Law whatsoever to alter change charge or make void the said bargained promised premises and that the said James Edwan will for ever warrant and defend the said bargained premises against all person or persons claiming by from or under him and the said James Edwan doth further covenant aforementioned at any time within seven years next ensuing to sign, seal & deliver such further grants deeds or conveyances in the Law for the said bargained premises as shall the said James Craig or his Counsel learned in the Law be reasonably advised devised or required according to the said true intents and meaning of these presents in witness whereof the said parties to these present Indentures have interchangeable put their hands and seals date and year from above written.
