This is a transcription of a conveyance for a land transfer between Archibald Craig, my 8th great-grandfather and Jacob Zutvan / van Zutphen / Sutphen, my 7th great-grandfather, on 24 APR 1733 regarding a property in Freehold, NJ.

This indenture made this twenty fourth day of April in the Sixth year of Our Sovereign Lord George the Second over Great Britain, France and Ireland King Anno Domini One thousand Seven hundred and thirty three Between Jacob Zutvan of Freehold in the County of Monmouth in the Eastern Division of the Province of New Jersey Yeoman of the one part and Archibald Craig of the same place yeoman of the other part Witnesseth that the said Jacob Zutvan for and in Consideration of the Sum of forty Pounds currant lawful money of the Province aforesaid to him in hand paid before the Ensealing and Delivery of these Presents by the said Archibald Craig the Receipt whereof he the said Jacob Zutvan Doth hereby acknowledge and himself to be therewith fully and entirely Satisfied Contented and paid and thereof and of and from every part and Parcel thereof Doth fully clearly and absolutely acquit Exonerate and Discharge him the said Archibald Craig his Heirs Executors Administrators and every of them for ever by these Presents Hath Granted Bargained Sold aliened Enoffered Released Conveyed and Confirmed and by these Presents Doth fully Clearly and absolutely Grant Bargain and Sell Alien Enoffer Release Convey and Confirm unto him the said Archibald Craig his Heirs and Assigns for Ever All that Tract of Land Situate lying and being in Freehold aforesaid it being part of a certain Tract of Land which was Granted Conveyed and Confirmed unto the said Jacob Zutvan by Deed of Bargain and Sale under the hand & Seal of Doctor John Johnston bearing Date the 6th day of December Anno Domini 1718 as by said Deed may dully appear Beginning on Spotswood’s North brook about a Chain below a Run it being a corner of said Zutvan and Craig’s Land and running South twenty four degrees West thirty four Chains to a black oak Sapling standing in the said Craig’s Line thence North fifty degrees East seventeen Chains Eighty four Links thence North twenty one Chains to where it began Containing Fourteen Acres Together with all and all manner of forcings foodings Pastures profits Commodities Liberties Advantages Emoluments Hereditaments and Appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any manner of ways thereunto appertaining And also all the Estate Right Title Interest posession property Claim and Demand whatsoever of him the said Jacob Zutvan either in Law or Equity of in or unto the said Tract or Parcel of Land as Granted and bargained Promises with the Appertenances with the Reversion and Reversions Remainder or Remainders of or belonging to the Same or to any part or Parcel thereof fully and amply to all intents Constructions and purposes whatsoever To Have and to Hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land and all and Singular the herein or hereby Granted and bargained Premises with there and every of their Right Members and Appurtenances unto him the said Archibald Craig his Heirs and Assigns for Ever to the only sole and proper use benefit and behalf of him the said Archibald Craig his Heirs and Assigns for Ever And he the said Jacob Zutvan doth for himself his Heirs Executors and Administrators covenant Promise Grant and agree to and with him the said Archibald Craig his Heirs and Assigns by these Presents in manner and form following (Viz) that at the time of the Sealing and Delivery hereof he the said Jacob Zutvan is lawfully Seized of the said Tract of Land and Singular the Premises with every of the Appurtenances of a good sure perfect absolute Indefeasible Estate of Inheritance in his proper demense as of fee without any Condition or Limitation of any use or uses Estate or Estates of in or to any Person or Persons whatsoever so as to alter Change Charge or Incumber the same and that at the time of the Sealing and Delivery hereof he the said Jacob Zutvan hath in himself good Right full Power and absolute lawful Authority to grant bargain Sell Release Convey and Confirm the Said Tract of Land and Granted and bargained Premises with the Appurtenances unto him the said Archibald Craig his Heirs and Assigns for Ever in manner aforesaid and that the same now is free and Clear and from time to time and at all times hereafter shall remain free and Clear to him the said Archibald Craig his Heirs and Assigns for Ever from all and all manner of former and other Gifts Grants bargains Sales Leases Mortgages Intails Jointures and of and from all other Titles Troubles Charges Demands and Incumbrances whatsoever had made committed Done or suffered to be done by him the said Jacob Zutvan or any other Person or Persons whatsoever so as to alter change charge defeat determine or make void the same (the rents or services due from henceforward for the same to the Lands proprietors if any be only excepted) And further he the said Jacob Zutvan doth Covenant agree and bind himself his Heirs Executors and Administrators and every of them firmly by these Presents to Warrant and for Ever defend the said Archibald Craig his Heirs and Assigns in quiet and reasonable possession of all and Singular the Premises against the just and lawful Claim and Demand of any Person or Persons whatsoever (Except below Excepted) In witness whereof he the said Jacob Zutvan hath hereunto set his hand and seal this Day and year first above written.

Memorandum December 27th 1733 Then appeared before me John Anderson one of his Majesty’s Council for the Province of New Jersey John Anderson Junior one of the Subscribing Evidences to the within written Deed and being Sworn upon the holy Evangelist of the Almighty God did Declare that he saw Jacob Zutvan the Grantor thereof Sign Seal and Deliver the same as his act and deed.
