James Brintzinghoffer ← Theodore C. Brintzinghoffer ← Catherine Forman ← William Spencer Forman ← Robert Forman ← William Forman ← Lewis Forman ← Aaron Forman ← Samuel Forman
Samuel Forman is my 8th great-grandfather. He was born in Hempstead, Long Island in 1662 and moved with his brothers, Thomas and Alexander, to Freehold, Monmouth County, Province of East Jersey. He was a prominent settler and left a long trail of records before he died on 13 OCT 1740. These snippets come from a variety of sources but mostly relate to his life in Monmouth County.

May 1699; Samuel of town of Freehold and Mary his wife and Thomas Forman my loving brother of same town, both yeomen.
Forman Genealogy by Anne Spottswood Dandridge. Refers to a deed between Alexander Forman and John Rogers 11 DEC 1695 on Oyster Bay. Samuel is in Springtown, Monmouth County in 1695
Moreover, Alexander Forman conveyed Dec. 11, 1695, ([Oyster Bay Records]Liber 2, page 152), lands at Oyster Bay to John Rogers, adding, “these lands did formerly belong to my brother, Samuel Forman.” Samuel Forman, described as “of Springtown in the County of Monmouth and Province of East New Jersey, in America, planter,” had conveyed these lands to Alexander Forman on April 11, 1693, (Liber B, page 278).
The comments of Helen L. Fairchild within The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, Volume 50 p392. saw Samuel and Mary’s grave’s in 1896 and their wedding record in Rhode Island.
In Austin’s Vital Statistics of Rhode Island p 28 is given the marriage of Samuel Forman and Mary Wilbur but with no reference to the authority. It seems therefore important to state that by a deed of ‘feoffmcnt’ dated Sept 22 1684 from Samuel Forman of Oyster Bay Long Island New York of land in the Narragansett country formerly property of Samuel Wilbur deceased taken with the will of the same one of the Patentees of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations it appears that this Samuel Forman is the same Samuel Forman whose tombstone with that of his wife Mary was in the little cemetery at Wickoff Hill near Freehold New Jersey when I visited it in 1896. The inscriptions were then legible as follows “Here lieth the body of Samuel Forman who died ye 13th day of October 1740 in y5 78th year of his age” (Stone perfect) “Body of Mary Forman wife of Samuel Forman who died ye 13th day of March 1728 in ye 62d Year of her Age.” (Top of stone broken).
